Zachariah (Age 6, He/Him)
Zachariah was the most perfect baby. He was born a couple of weeks early due to complications with my blood pressure. During our stay in the hospital, it was discovered that he and I had different blood types that caused him to get jaundice. He had to stay on a light machine for two days and keep his eyes covered for most of the day. He showed us then how much of a fighter he is.
He was such a good baby and loved music at a very young age. We remember him dancing to Motown classics at three months old. It was at around six to nine months old when we noticed he wasn't saying as many words as other children. We got him enrolled in KRESA and had a teacher come out and work with him. She was amazing and was the first to mention he could possibly have autism.
Zachariah is very routine and doesn't like to go off on what he doesn't know- although he will try it, sometimes. He was enrolled at ECSE in our hometown and excelled in his classrooms; all the teachers we had helped him so much. He is now in Kindergarten and tested in the 97% of his class. He can read so well and does math problems I was practicing in 3rd grade.
Zachariah is such a sweet and kind boy. He is a light in a room. His smile brings his father and I so much happiness. He still loves music and has a happy dance that will make you want to dance along. He loves the water and could swim for hours. He also loves books, loves Pete the Cat, Cat in the Hat, and pretends he has his own library. He loves buses and has about seven of them that he lines up daily.
He loves to play pretend. He stims by looking through different spaces where you and I wouldn't see anything. But he does, and it makes me wish I could see the world through his eyes. I love Zachariah's kind heart and his beautiful brain. God blessed us to be his parents, and we are so grateful that he did. It's not always easy, but we trust God that he has a plan for everything.
