Micah (Age 2, He/Him)

climb. He is incredibly loving and full of life. Before his diagnosis, we thought he might be deaf—he failed multiple hearing tests until doctors performed further testing under sedation and confirmed his brain does respond to sound.

Micah is currently nonverbal and communicates using an AAC device and sign language, and he’s beginning to babble. He participates in speech and occupational therapy to support his expressive and receptive language, sensory processing, and peer interactions.

Autism has brought a unique beauty into our lives. It has taught us to slow down, see the world from a different perspective, and understand that love doesn’t need words. Micah finds so much joy in the simplest things, and that joy is truly inspiring.

Micah is in dire need of a safety bed to keep him safe in his room. His insurance has denied coverage for the bed and paying out of pocket would cost thousands of dollars. Currently, he has been sleeping on a trampoline with a mattress to prevent him from banging his head and escaping, but this solution is not working well. He tries to eat the foam, gets between the mattress and the netting to get onto the floor, and can get under the fitted sheet, making it unsafe for him.
